Anime and Manga Exhibition in California

BZou | August 12, 2008

If you live in California, then you might have the chance to go to an Anime/Manga Exhibit at the “Napa Valley Museum.” California’s Napa Valley Museum and the Nichi Bei Times newspaper are launching “Manga & Anime: An Exhibition of Popular Cartoon Art,” it will last until August 15.

Since I live in New York, I unfortunately would be unable to attend this interesting event but if I lived in Cali, I would definitely make an appearance to see what this exhibit is all about. I thought this information would be useful for all the Otakus out there that live near the museum, Hopefully you will have a kick out of whatever this exhibit is all about. Have fun!

5-Reminders for First Timers in Japan

BZou |

Doing my usual browsing yet again, I come across this useful tip guide from gadling.com that are useful for anyone that is planning to head to Japan. I figure these tips would be a very useful reminder for anyone and decided to post it here. Here is the exact text from the source:

1) There is no word for no.

Japanese has something of a steep learning curve (to say the least!). Of course, one thing you’d better learn if you want to survive here is that there is no word for no. Yes can mean no, maybe most likely means no, but saying no directly pretty much informs those around you that you have about as much social grace as a bovine.

2) Be mindful of your footwear.

The Japanese don’t take kindly to foreigners who forget to take off their shoes when entering private spaces. Use the slippers - that’s why they’re there - though be mindful that no two pairs of slippers are created equal. After all, the Japanese especially don’t take kindly to foreigners who walk through the kitchen in toilet slippers.
