A Politician and an Otaku, Known as Mr. Manga
BZou | August 3, 2008
For those who regularly browse through my blog articles, you may have already seen my post about Shoko Nakagawa, the infamous Idol who is also an Otaku. However, some of you may know someone else who is also an Otaku, Taro Aso. He is a politician in Japan but is also known as Mr. Manga for he claims to read 20 comic magazines a week.
Now for those who knows nothing about Aso, He has earned the nick name “Rozen” Aso because he was caught reading a volume of the excellent gothic-loli Peach-Pit manga Rozen Maiden in Tokyo International Airport, and gave a speech to Japanese Otaku in Akihabara. When he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs, he established the International Manga Award for non-Japanese manga artists in 2007.
Here is a clipping of a newspaper article, click to see bigger version:
Now I don’t know how you all feel but I would love to have someone like him in office, someone who is true to his nature and willing to admit his love unlike a lot of shady politicians thoughout the world nowadays. I always hate how politicians lie and scheme and never show you who they really are. However, Aso admits to being the person who he is, which I find awesome. This guy seems too cool to pass up in my opinion.

If Taro Aso got elected, there would be a good chance that he would make a bigger push to use manga as a platform to spread Japanese culture world-wide. Now, it wouldn’t be as cool as an eroge lover spreading eroge world wide but hey….. this is sufficient for the time being, I mean you can’t have everything I guess.
So what do you guys think of “Rozen” Aso? Do you think he is someone you would want in office?

We need politicians like that in the US, that’s very unlikely to ever happen though. I think he sounds pretty down to earth, not a bad kind of person to have in office.

Awesome XD a politician that is actually true to his passions. and to anime no less. That is pretty nice. Even reads goth-loli XD a brave man I would say. Loli is not such a bad thing to read, but for someone of his stature I would be a bit afraid.

Yeah I agree with the both of you, he is true to himself, which is awesome.
And yeah Kairu, If i were a Politician I wouldn’t want to be caught reading some loli manga either, something like that will definitely kill your career here in the US.
